In regards to "when i was growing up" i could totally relate that Nellie, i remember being in middle school and having this idea that knowing Spanish, speaking it or identifying with with begin Mexican was so frowned upon in my group. being white was the ideal thing to be, "when i was growing up, i read magazines and saw movies blone movie stars white skin" all of us in the group were Hispanic but we weren't really, if that  makes sense. we weren't like those Mexican kids.

For the color of my mother,in all honesty i didn't really understand the idea of the lips. is it just her life through her lips? i understand what is being said but cant really put it together
